Ok Folks. Now that we’ve got a good circle of people riding with us, we thought it was time to expand our “Rider Interview” Section. This week, 10 Questions with Crazy Larry:
Ok, we’ll get the tough questions out of the way first: What’s your name?
Larry Caddell aka CrazyLarry or CL
What part of Charlotte, do you call home?
PlazaMidwood (I grew up here, I’ve been back almost 1yr after spending the last 10yrs in Waxhaw)
Tell us about your background in cycling, and and what got you into the sport?
I’ve ridden mtn bikes for 20 years and on the road on and off the last 15. I love 24hour mtb races with a team of friends. I love getting out in places like Pisgah and Dupont. I like the convenience of rolling out of the house and hitting the road too. I also love exploring roads in new places. I make it a point to ride 200+ miles when I go on vacation.
What’s your favorite kind of riding to do today?
My favorite kind of riding these days is with people that enjoy riding as much as I do and push each other to go farther and faster on the road or trail. I must say there is nothing like riding 30mph downhill in the woods. That’s probably still my favorite.
What do you take on a ride with you no matter what (besides the bike of course)?
If a road ride: my drivers license, some cash, a couple co2′s, a tube and my blackberry. If an epic mtb ride lots of food in addition to the previous. I use my phone as a camera all the time.
What are you riding right now?
I’m spending most of my miles on a BMC team machine. I got it late spring and love it. I’ve got a good old klien single speed for running to the store and DQ. I’ve got a surly single speed mtn bike that I’ll ride anywhere. When I head to mtns for a big day I take my Santa Cruz heckler. It eats bumps and drops and flies downhill.
Where is your favorite place to ride?
I love riding trails or the roads in the mtns. Right now my favorite is the trails at dupont. There aren’t many places you can end a 4 hour ride with a refreshing swim.
How ofter do you ride?
I try to ride at least 3 days a week. Its easy to get more rides in when I get out early like hitting the COCAC ride @ 515am (tues-fri)
If you hadn’t jumped into the cycling, what do you think you would be doing now?
I’d probably feel stuck running and would try to rock climb and backpack as much as possible.
Anything else you would like to add?
I’m a grumpy person when I don’t ride!
*Time Bonus: Favorite post ride beer?
Any cold adult beverage tastes good post ride. Normally I’m a beer snob but those rules don’t apply after a ride.
