Ok, we’ll get the tough questions out of the way first: What’s your name?
Ted L.
What part of Charlotte, do you call home?
NoDa
Tell us about your background in cycling, and and what got you into the sport?
I used to work in Lancaster, PA, with a bunch of roadies who got me started. Lots of great roads out there made it easy to stick with! Ironically, my Charlotte ride (see below) is the same bike I got started on, though it was originally white. I have a few mountain bike races under my belt, as well as a road race sprint up the famed Manayunk “wall” in Philadelphia.
What’s your favorite kind of riding to do today?
Tough call – mountain, road, and commuting each have different elements that appeal to me. Really, it’s whatever I’m on at the moment.
What do you take on a ride with you no matter what (besides the bike of course)?
Positive attitude, dude!
What are you riding right now?
1990 Giant ATX 770 mountain bike converted for commuting/road use – aka ‘the green machine’, which borders on a John Deere them b/c of the yellow accents. Otherwise, got a 2004 Gary Fisher Cake 2 for mtb, and a 2000 Trek 2300SLR for road (resides in PA).
Where is your favorite place to ride?
mtb: locally, Sherman Branch & whitewater center. Of course, Asheville rocks. Road: country, with good views and low traffic. That said, I’m more often than not on the Booty Loop for convenience.
How ofter do you ride?
Once, maaaaaybe twice a week. But I usually find somewhere to bike-commute 4-5 x/wk, even if it’s only a mile to the Y.
If you hadn’t jumped into the cycling, what do you think you would be doing now?
Gosh, honestly, I’d probably be a little grumpier. Maybe more in-line skating?
Anything else you would like to add?
Not really…but I guess I’m always looking for a challenge. Well, not necessarily always *looking*, but I know they’re good for me.
*Time Bonus: Favorite post ride beer?
Usually comes down to a balance of taste & economics, which means PBR. Love the crispness of a recently sampled Paulaner Pilsener.
