Why Pablove?

Any of you that own – or have seen – the 36th Street Racing jersey may wonder what, who or why the “Pablove” logo is on the left sleeve.

Jeff Castelaz is a friend, music business colleague, and avid cyclist who tragically lost his son Pablo in 2009 to Wilms tumor. Jeff founded the “Pablove Foundation” with his wife JoAnn to honor Pablo’s life and his courage. The Pablove Foundation is tasked with a twofold mission: “fund pediatric cancer research and to support activities such as play, art, reading and music for cancer kids in hospitals.”

My interest in supporting Jeff, JoAnn and Pablove is one I take very personally. It is a symbiotic clash of my personal and professional lives. He is on the LAF board with fellow Charlottean and 24HOB founder Spencer Leuders. This is something that matters to me and something that can make an impact in Charlotte. Rest assured we’ll be doing more with Pablove in 2011.

Following last month’s Velonews article, this week Blurt has a great feature on Jeff and Jo Ann in their Bully Pulpit section.

Pablo’s story here.

One of my first blog posts about my ride in Austin with Jeff last March:
