From Joey: “I barely avoided a nasty crash. I got scolded by the race ref and made to go to the back of the pack (I was guilty). But overall CT and I did pretty well in the 35+. CT was all over the front of the race, even putting in a good surge to pull back a two man break. I tried a little go off the front and a few guys joined me but we definitely couldn’t hold it and got pinned back. It came down to a group sprint and the beastman, Rodney Almeida, took it with the rest of us on his wheel.”

From Moseley: “The 4s had a good day too. Neill put in some strong early work to get the pace up, but suffered a mechanical mid race and had to chase back on with the Pro/1/2 field. Greg, Jaime, and Shawn were all towards the front with everyone seeing a little time in the wind but we lost Greg to a flat on the last lap. David Duquette was in the days best break but got pulled back with two to go. The race came down to a sketchy field sprint that saw David and Jaime nab top 20.”

In the Pro/1/2 Alexis had a very strong ride, finishing with the front of the main pack, (ahem – ahead of George Hincapie). Summary: 36th Street Racing beat the BMC Pro Team.*

The weather looks pretty socked in, with the radar showing another band of rain coming thru right at 10a. Hate to do it, but I’m canceling the ride today. Just isn’t safe for a big group on wet roads with slick brakes.

Lots of rain in tmrw’s forecast. In the spirit of getting miles in Uptown Cycles is opening on a Sunday and hosting a rainy day computrainer session.

A 1 hour and 20min workout followed by a 12mi race. The race will be a competition against Spintech in Asheville and Parvilla in Maryland.

And big news out of Noda, as the Noda Grand Prix launches! The race is Sunday April 15th, standing shoulder to shoulder with Dilworth Crit and The Presby Invitational for a great weekend or bike racing in Charlotte. Lots of effort going into this one, so please spread the word! Come on out, volunteer, have fun, bring the family! More to come on how you can get involved, and of course there are still a few sponsorship opportunities available.

10a, 36th Street Racing Sunday Ride. Group departs 10am from the corner of 36th & Yadkin. 53miles. Group stop at Stallings Road Park. Group stop at corner of Pine Church Rd and Flowes Store Rd. Lead/chase split at Flowes Store Rd, chase group will ride no drop (18-19mph) and sweep the route. Store stop at Camp Stewart Rd & Harrisburg Rd. Sprint at Orr Rd. Pub finish at Growlers Pourhouse for $2.50 Rangers and Fat Tires courtesy New Belgium Brewery.

Please come prepared. Cell phone, food, water, cue sheet, route & pace familiarity, ID, and cash are always good things to have on your person no matter the distance. Cyclists ride at their own risk, roads are not closed for cyclists. We do our best to make sure everyone gets home in one piece, but it can be tough to account for all. Bitter winter is back, but in theory without the rain. Regardless, it looks like you’ll need to bundle up. Also, if you’re planning on racing in 2012, this is the last weekend to get your base miles in before pedaling in anger starts – The Hincapie Spring Series kicks off next Saturday, Feb 18.
